When we bought this house so many moons ago, we never had the money to afford to buy a dining room table. I had a folding table with folding chairs which I tried to make good with tablecloths, hoping a praying that one day I would get a table. That is when I found Shanty Chic designs, and my hopes of getting a table that I would love finally came true. So with the plans in hand and after watching the video on repeat, my husband and I were ready to give it a try. Here are the plans that we went with for our table.

Our wood was pretty green, as my husband said, which means it was wet, so we waited a week for it to dry out a little bit before cutting. Just like when you sew a pattern, you need to wash the material so that it doesn't shrink after you cut it, we waited for the wood to dry so it wouldn't warp or shrink when it dried out. After waiting a week, we got to work cutting the wood just as the instructions told us to. They have very detailed directions on your cuts, making it easy to follow. Then we started to put it all together.
The hardest part of the whole project was the sanding of the wood to get a nice finish, because we used builder grade, which meant that the wood needed a ton of sanding. We decided that we would make the table and one bench, as that would fit best in our space.
To get the other chairs, I went onto Facebook Marketplace and found chairs that someone was selling for $5 each. They needed work, which was OK because that meant that we could get them to match the table and bench. In the end, I decided to paint them all with expresso colored paint, and I went to Joanns and got material to recover the seats. The whole set fits perfectly in our space, and we were able to do the whole project for about $250, which we would have never gotten a table this big and nice for that at the furniture store.
This is your sign: if you can't find what you are looking for in the store, don't settle, build it yourself, it is so worth it in the end.
